10 Things to Do in Hilton Head Island

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

Hilton Head Island in South Carolina is a town and an island of the same name. Its 12 miles of beachfront on the Atlantic Ocean have made it a popular area for visitors. Here are some ideas for things to do.

Learn at the Coastal Discovery Museum
This is more than a museum, as staff organise tours and cruises round the island, classes for schoolchildren, and summer camps. Learn about the area’s history and ecology from the outdoor and indoor exhibits, and take a souvenir home from the museum store.

Visit Harbour Town
In addition to the lighthouse, (see below), visitors to Harbour Town can browse the specialty shops and art galleries, and eat at excellent restaurants. Admire the boats in the pretty marina and book a dolphin watching tour or rent a craft for water sports.

Visit the Harbour Town Lighthouse
Climb the steps to the top of the 90-foot red and white striped tower for superb views of the island and shop for jewelry and collectibles at the shop. The Lighthouse Museum has artifacts and photographs about the history of the island.

Play at the Adventure Cove
Two 18-hole mini adventure golf courses with a Caribbean theme and a large games arcade make up this family fun center. The golf courses are imaginatively designed with lagoons and caverns.

Visit the Public Parks
Hilton Head Island has several parks with sports facilities and other amenities. Fish from the floating dock on the lake at Jarvis Creek Park, admire the huge oak trees at Fish Haul Creek Park, and explore the historic cemetery at Green Shell Park. Crossings Park contains the Bristol Sports Arena with a basketball court and a roller hockey rink.

Play at The Sandbox
Fun and education are the keys at this children’s interactive museum where young visitors learn through play in activities that include pretending to be a pilot, playing a musical instrument, and participating in art projects. They can also climb a wall, hunt for a T-Rex, learn about preparing food, and play with magic sand. The museum also organizes special family fun nights.

Taste the Wine at the Island Winery
The winery produces fine red and white wines, including Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, and Merlot. Carolina fruits, such as apples, cranberries, blueberries, blackberries, and peaches are also used to make wine. Visitors receive free wine tasting and there is a weekly wine and cheese happy hour.

Play at the Hilton Head Pirate’s Island Adventure Golf
Pirate themed miniature golf is inventively brought to life with landscaping and life sized figures. Treasure caves, waterfalls and ghost ships add to the swashbuckling atmosphere.

Listen to the Hilton Head Orchestra
The orchestra performs a wide range of music at their concerts from classical to tunes from popular Broadway shows. A new venue has been constructed that enables the orchestra to play a summer program, outdoors.

Ride at the Lawton Stables
This equestrian center is located at the Sea Pines Plantation resort. Individual and group lessons are available and it’s also a fun, family day out with horseback trails, pony rides, and carriage rides. Children will love the petting zoo, which includes a llama and a pot bellied pig.

The many attractions of the Adriatic Coast

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

There have been years when it seemed that the boom of tourists on the Adriatic Riviera had definitely gone down, the years in which mucilage had invaded the Adriatic Sea, making the water dirty and totally unsuitable for bathing. Yet Rimini and all other towns on the Riviera, have managed to rise from their ashes. We speak of a renewal on a large scale, with a complete renovation of the city and the whole touristic offer.

For here you can find offers and accommodations for everyone for young people and families. Furthermore, the calendar is literally packed with events, which each month attracting young and old people. Such as the Pink Night, considered the New Year’s Eve of summer and that draws millions of people. There are shows, concerts, events, nightclubs open late for young people and dance halls to dance for adult and old people. A full-fledged revival, for what is one of the most important seaside resorts of Italy. Also in Rimini numerous projects of urban regeneration are promoted and implemented, such as the promenade and the pier or the construction of new exhibition spaces.

The pier itself is a very important place for the city, where one goes for a walk, but where also is located one of the most important locals of Rimini. Also just this place was the background to the unforgettable scene of “Vitelloni” of Fellini with the arrival of Rex, the emptiness of the melancholy sea of Gelsomina, the transgressive of Saraghina and Volpina.

The renovation works continue, in order to always offer the highest and best possible services. This was possible thanks to a change at the administrative level, sixteen years ago was in fact created the province of Rimini, making it possible to govern with greater unity a territory diverse and rich. However, the road is not yet over, the territory of Rimini is at a crossroads: it has done so much in terms of renewal of infrastructure in the last 10 years but is waiting for real, widespread results. The administration must complete certain works essential for development. The desire to make and renew certainly is not lacking, but Rimini is not only that.

In addition to urban renewal, the provision of entertainment in the city really do not fear comparisons. Every month there are at Rimini many events, concerts, fairs, sporting events of high level. As the concert of Afterhours, Eros Ramazzotti, Laura Pausini. Rimini Fair every month hosts major events, such as SUN, or the International Exhibition of Outdoor, along with T&T and GIOSUN exhibitions dedicated to garden decor and design of so-called “outdoor life” or the Fair Ecomondo. The discos of Rimini, then already known around the world, famous names like Pasha, Villa delle Rose, Peter Pan, Baia Imperiale, which every weekend are filled with boys, girls and young men who want to have fun and socialize in a unique setting. But also the fashion of dancing on the beach has been created, you pass from one room to another, with free entry. And the customers run to be here. The fun is not lacking for most adults, you can still detect at least thirty ballrooms across the area of the coast still in vogue, some seasonal, others are open all year.
