How do I know what the debt settlement services to choose from?

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Deciding on which debt settlement to choose can be rather tricky.

Although there are many available and states mandate the fees which can be added each month, knowing which debt company to join may be as easy as researching the company itself.

Aurora Lillo Editor of the “Best Debt Relief Programs” website — http://www.BestDebtReliefPrograms.net — pointed out;

“…Many of these companies are popping up given the current state of economy and people seeking financial relief. Debt settlement is not always a viable solution in every case. Depending on income versus debt ratio, it may be best to seek professional counseling before moving forward…”

The majority of debt consolidation companies are legitimate but like a loan company or payday loan type service, these companies are in business for the money. on average a debt consolidation company will charge 10% interest rate on their services. This is much like a credit card company however the interest may be lower if your interest rate for your credit cards is above 20% which commonly happens when a default is made.

“…Knowing which debt management company to choose may be as easy as looking up online a consolidation company and doing your own research. Most companies will promote their site with nice Web Design New Orleans and catchy slogans however knowing what your final payment will be is more important. Consolidation companies are mandated to abide by the laws and regulations for the state they are in and there will not be any overinflated fees attached. Look for a site that is listed with the Business Bureau both online and offline…” added A. Lillo.

Making sure to check the reputation of the company is important but also having a debt counselor available for financial advice throughout your term will help tremendously. In the end, debt settlement is up to the individual to hold their end of the bargain and see through the program. The majority of clients fail to complete the program but considering the current state of the economy this is not surprising.
