The McDonnell Douglas MD-80 series are twin-engine, medium-range, single-aisle commercial jet airliners. The MD-80 aircraft were lengthened and updated from the DC-9. The MD-80 series can seat from 130 up to 172 passengers depending on variant and seating arrangement.

The MD-80 series was introduced into commercial service on October 10, 1980 by Swissair. The series includes the MD-81, MD-82, MD-83, MD-87, and MD-88. These all have the same fuselage length except the shortened MD-87. The MD-80 series was followed into service in modified form by the MD-90 in 1995 and the MD-95/Boeing 717 in 1999.

Scandinavian Airlines or SAS, previously Scandinavian Airlines System, is the flag carrier of Denmark, Norway and Sweden, and the largest airline in Scandinavia. Part of the SAS Group and headquartered in the Scandinavian Airlines head office in Solna, Sweden, the airline operates 198 aircraft to 176 destinations in more than 30 countries. The airline’s main hubs are Copenhagen Airport, which is the main European and intercontinental hub, Stockholm-Arlanda Airport and Oslo Airport, Gardermoen.

In 2006, SAS carried 25.4 million passengers, making a revenue of SEK 42 billion. This makes it the ninth-largest airline in Europe. SAS’ fleet consists of Airbus A319, A321, A330 and A340, Boeing 737 Classic and Next Generation, Bombardier CRJ900, McDonnell Douglas MD-80 and MD-87. It is a founding member of the Star Alliance. The company has its head office in Solna, near Stockholm, Sweden.

The airline was founded in 1946 as a consortium to pool Det Danske Luftfartselskab’s, Svensk Interkontinental Lufttrafik’s and Det Norske Luftfartselskap’s transatlantic services. European and domestic cooperation started two years later, and in 1951 the airlines merged to create SAS.

I very much enjoyed this brew!
Strobist: SB800 on the left shooting into a foam core V-card, SB800 to the right shooting into a foam core V-card, SB800 behind to the right with a snoot bouncing light off a card behind the bottle. I could have done a better job shaping the bounce card but I’m only in it for the beer. Fired with pocket wizards.

© MURAKAMI, the most comprehensive retrospective to date of the work of internationally acclaimed Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, was on exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum of Art from April 5 – July 13, 2008. Organized by the The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Los Angeles, the exhibit included more than ninety works in various media spanning the artist’s entire career, installed in more than 18,500 square feet of gallery space across the Morris A. and Meyer Schapiro Wing and Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Gallery.
Among the works included are many of Murakami’s acclaimed sculpture figures including the 23-foot-high Tongari-kun (2003–4); Miss Ko2 (1997), a long-legged waitress who has become one of the artist’s signature characters; and Hiropon (1997), a Japanese girl jumping a rope created by milk spurting from her gargantuan breasts. Among the paintings on view will be Tan Tan Bo (2001), as well as Tan Tan Bo Puking—a.k.a. Gero Tan (2002).

The Brooklyn Museum, sitting at the border of Prospect Heights and Crown Heights near Prospect Park, is the second largest art museum in New York City. Opened in 1897 under the leadership of Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences president John B. Woodward, the 560,000-square foot, Beaux-Arts building houses a permanent collection including more than one-and-a-half million objects, from ancient Egyptian masterpieces to contemporary art.
The Brooklyn Museum was designated a landmark by the New York Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1966.
